For the past two years, my wife signed-up our family up for the Valley Harvestfest Marathon. I’m not a runner by any means, and despite my initial reluctance (and grumbling under my breath), I succumbed to the pressure and ran the grueling 5km run alongside with my youngest daughter and younger sister. My wife, son and eldest daughter stepped up to the challenge and ran the 10km portion of the marathon. Although I placed in the lower quartile of folks in my age group, I’m still proud of myself as I beat my time last year by a few minutes. As they say, “Comparison is the Thief of Joy”, however any positive self-improvements in my mind is considered a win – no matter how small. Feeling grateful to be running besides the ones I love the most – so proud of this crew!

Camping and canoeing has always been a passion of mine. A few weeks ago, I spent a few days with a some close friends exploring the backwoods of Keji and what it has to offer. After about half a day of paddling and portaging, we finally reached our destination - a secluded island campsite with its own private beach. I am incredibility grateful for the opportunity to disconnect from daily responsibilities and immerse myself in the great outdoors with wonderful friends. Being immersed in nature offers a profound sense of peace and rejuvenation that can deeply nurture the soul. The tranquility of a quiet forest, the gentle lapping of water against a canoe, and the crispness of fresh air create an environment that invites introspection and mindfulness. When surrounded by the beauty of the natural world, worries and distractions fade away, allowing for a reconnection with oneself. The rhythm of paddling through calm waters or setting up a camp under a starlit sky fosters a sense of belonging and harmony with the earth, reminding us of the simplicity and wonder of life. I also won every crib game we played, earning the title of the “undefeated crib champion of backwoods Keji”. Don’t take life too serious and make sure to allow the space in your life to include those ‘things’ that rejuvenate your soul.
